Meta and GoFundMe have partnered to simplify the process people use social media to donate to charitable causes. GoFundMe links will still be shared via social media, but they will now boast a number of improvements. This integration affects both Instagram and Facebook.
The companies say the new GoFundMe links create an “interactive experience” for potential donors. To that end, there’s a big and bold new donate button that takes users to the official GoFundMe page to complete the transaction. Social media posts are also now dynamic, meaning they change in real time as the amount of money raised and the number of donors fluctuate.
There’s also new “seamless” integration with Instagram Stories, which is handy. GoFundMe CEO Tim Cadogan said in a press release that the move is intended to “give organizations the tools they need to inspire a new generation of supporters to make a difference for the causes they care about.”
These new features will soon be available in the US, Australia, Ireland, Canada, and the UK. Beyond the GoFundMe integration, social media sites have always experimented with different ways to streamline charitable donations. Instagram let users set up group fund-raising in 2021 and added donation stickers before that.
After CES and ahead of Samsung’s Unpacked, the Engadget crew had a quick chance to catch its collective breath this week. But we took a look at the deal machine to see which tech sales are worth your dollar. Right now, we’re seeing some good Apple deals — one on the latest iPad mini and another on the new 15-inch MacBook Air — as well as a first-time discount on the Kindle Colorsoft ereader.
Chipolo One Point came out shortly after Google launched its Find My Device feature, a crowd-sourced search network that relies on other Android phones to track down your lost belongings (a bit like Apple’s Find My function). It’s currently our favorite Bluetooth tracker for Android.
We liked how easy it was to set up and how loud it sounds. Plus, unlike AirTags, it has a hole, so it’s easy to attach the tracker to a key ring. Also on Amazon. Chipolo is selling a pack combining its wallet and two standard One trackers for $52.
A new model of AirTags may come later this year, but as it is, we consider Apple’s current AirTag to be the best Bluetooth tracker for iPhone owners. It’s not the lowest price ever, but it beats the $73 going rate for a four-pack from the past few months.
