Adobe Fresco is Adobe’s painting app designed to compete with apps like Clip Studio Paint and Procreate. It launched about five years ago at $10 per year, which was reasonable, but a one-time $13 purchase of Procreate came with a number of powerful features that made it a great alternative for artists looking to paint on the iPad. But now, Adobe is making Fresco completely free to use, allowing everyone to access functions that were previously locked to a payment.
By looking at this Adobe Fresco FAQ page, we can see what the paid plans offered at the time. Fresco had a free plan from the start, but those who didn’t pay missed out on over a thousand brushes, premium shapes, and the ability to import custom brushes. Now, all of these features are free to use for all users.
For those who don’t know about it, Adobe Fresco is available on iPhone, iPad, Windows PC, and Windows tablets. Not every model will run the app, but you can check this list to see if your device is compatible with it. However, most recent devices should be able to use it — support goes back to iPhones and iPads that Apple released about 10 years ago, including the iPhone 6 and every iPad Pro.
By making Fresco completely free, Adobe can now try to fight back against the competition since those apps cost more. As reported by The Verge, Fresco has unique functions like motion presets for quickly animating drawings and artwork mirroring. Now that you can download it for free, those interested can get it from the Apple App Store or the Adobe website.
